A commercial space that can transform and renew itself like a living organism, blending art and architecture.
The Wepublic project in Istanbul's Akmerkez Mall was a commercial space designed to transform and renew itself like a living organism. We created a fun labyrinth system with curvilinear forms that can be easily modified, transformed, or dismantled, giving the space a spontaneous and emotive feel. The design lies between art and architecture, aiming to transform wasted space into a new, experimental area.
The project's concept was to blur the lines between traditional commercial spaces and create an immersive experience for users. Two entrances bring visitors directly into the heart of the store, a 17-meter high atrium that serves as both a hang-out area and a connection point between different paths of circulation. This unique design element adds surprise and depth to the space.
The Wepublic project has been recognized with an Honorable Mention in The Plan Awards in 2017. Our approach to experimental architecture and urbanism continues to push boundaries, exploring new ways to engage users and redefine the role of commercial spaces in public life.
