Specularism APP

An interactive data sculpture that explores the mutable nature of reality within the contemporary digital landscape.

Specularism is an interactive data sculpture that explores the mutable nature of reality within the contemporary digital landscape. This project was born out of a 42-day artistic endeavor as part of the Connect for Creativity art residency program in Belgrade, Serbia. The residency brought together artists from diverse backgrounds and cultures to facilitate cross-cultural dialogue and foster collaboration.

The sculpture forms an intersection between social media, data science, and participatory art, reflecting the ephemeral and ever-evolving narratives that define the digital age. Advanced camera systems embedded within the installation capture visitors' images, triggering a transformation of the sculpture's dynamic composition. The mosaic tiles that make up the sculpture are harvested from social media, with each tile reflecting a diverse range of individual digital narratives.

The project operates on the principle of diverse perspective interplay, constructing a collective consciousness that varies with each viewer's perspective. By creating a fluid, ever-evolving tableau, Specularism offers a critique of the mutable nature of individual and collective realities within the social media era. It invites critical engagement with our rapidly changing digital existence, interrogating notions of personal identity and challenging the concept of a stable, unchanging reality.

Through its dynamic composition and continuous transformation, Specularism encapsulates the fluidity of digital life, offering a living representation of the relentless pace of digital existence. As an artwork, it stands as an embodiment of our times, where individual realities are as transient as the mosaic tiles themselves.
