MOSCOW-VARVARKA MIXED USE

Designing for an urban setting poses many challenges, including dealing with significant changes in grade and placing a structure that addresses modern needs between historic buildings.

The Moscow-Varvarka Mixed Use project is a complex urban development in the heart of Moscow, Russia. The site spans over 55,000 square meters and features a mix of hospitality, residential, and retail spaces. Our approach to designing this project was centered around preserving the aesthetic character of the surrounding area while introducing modern elements that address the needs of the contemporary world.

Designing for an urban setting poses unique challenges, particularly when dealing with significant changes in grade and integrating new structures into historic contexts. In this case, we sought to balance the introduction of new forms and proportions with the need to respect the relationships between existing buildings and maintain the overall continuity of the street view. By doing so, we aimed to create a cohesive and harmonious urban environment that honors the past while embracing the future.

The project's success can be seen in its ability to navigate these challenges and create a vibrant and functional mixed-use development. The design not only addresses the needs of the modern world but also preserves the aesthetic character of the surrounding area, making it a standout example of thoughtful and contextual urban design.
